Zuoz to Bever along the Inn valley

As an alternative to the higher level Via Engiadina walk from Zuoz to Bever this valley walk is quite a pleasant alternative. It's along broad paths by the River Inn and lanes through villages, meadows and woodland.

Leaving Zuoz station the lane drops down to the River Inn (En in Romansch)...

......where a broad path leads towards Madulain.

There's an alternative path that leads uphill...

....above the river...

.....to reach Madulain.

The centre of the village is in typical Engadin style but like many seems to have few refreshment opportunities.

Beyond the village the river is crossed on this magnificent wooden bridge...

......and I couldn't resist a photo of this train.

The next village, Chaumes-ch can be seen across the meadows.

Beyond the village this track to Bever passes a restaurant (just visible to the left) so time for coffee.

Across the meadows is the village of La Punt with the Albula Pass road just visible up the valley.

Beyond Chaumes-ch the valley track is, at first flat,....

....but starts to rise above...

.....the valley floor to give views up towards Samedan and St Moritz. A pity about the power lines!

.....on to a track across the meadows towards Bever.
