Neustift to Elferlift via Autenalm

We awoke to a very wet day. It had been our intention to walk to from Neustift to the Elferhütte via Autenalm, the Zwölfernieder coll and then around the Elfer Spitze. However, the weather was clearly too bad for this to be entirely safe on very wet rocks.

We decided to walk up to Autenalm (1658m), as planned, and decide what to do there. The walk through the forest took about 2 hours. The photograph shows that Alpine restaurants cannot be relied on to be open in bad weather! From Autenalm we took path marked 5b on the maps, which contours around, to the Elferlift chair lift station at 1812m taking 40 minutes. Here, at least we were able to dry out a little and have a drink in the almost deserted restaurant.
